Readey ready to join sports information staff
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sports information director Ed Habershaw announces the hiring of Stephen Readey of West Kingston, R.I., as the newest assistant in the school's sports information office.
Born and raised in Rhode Island, Readey attended Johnson & Wales University where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management. Since that time, Readey has gained valuable industry experience with employers such as the Pawtucket Red Sox, Baseball Info Solutions, ESPN, Endicott College, and Anna Maria College.
For the past three years, Readey performed all sports communication duties for 15 NCAA programs, including scoring live events, posting online content, writing press releases, arranging media coverage, assisting with event management, completing conference reports, creating marketing materials, and hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising staff. Readey has over three years of experience with the Commonwealth Coast Conference, its policies, its standards, and the staffs of its member institutions.
He has two years of experience overseeing sports information duties for Division III football and will serve as a game-day contact for the Seahawk gridders.
Readey served as the host SID when two Seahawk basketball players achieved their respective 1,000-point milestones. On Jan. 10, 2009, Allegra Lovoy '09 scored 14 points against the AMCats in an 84-48 Seahawk win to become the eighth women's player all-time to achieve the plateau. Then at the Fuller Center last February during a conference semifinal playoff game, Windell Hinkson '11 needed 13 points to reach the milestone. Hinkson scored a game- and career-high 39 points to lead the fifth-seeded Seahawks to an upset of the top-seeded AMCats, 89-80, on the way to Salve Regina's third conference championship.
With ESPN in 2007, Readey performed duties of a data editor assuring the accuracy of box scores, statistical data, real-time updates, the Bottom Line, ESPN.com, and other sources of sports information.
He has assisted with game day operations during events held at McCoy Stadium, including the 2004 MiLB All-Star Weekend and the USA vs. Italy game.
"I am thrilled to be coming back to Rhode Island and to be joining such a prestigious and well-respected university," said Readey. "I look forward to assisting Ed in bringing Salve Regina sports information to new heights."
Habershaw became the university's sports information director in 1992 and welcomed his first assistant, Shane Donaldson, to the office in 2006. Peter DiVito succeeded Donaldson in the role from 2008 to this past May, before accepting the interim sports information director post at Wheaton College.
"I have been fortunate to work with some talented individuals," said Habershaw. "Steve brings a tremendous amount of creativity and energy to the position and joins us at a critical time when we begin utilizing an outstanding resource for our Web content - PrestoSports."
With 19 varsity sports and over 400 student athletes, the Salve Regina sports information office provides live stats and some video for nearly all home events. With its new athletics Web site <SalveAthletics.com> set to launch later this month, Salve Regina will promote its athletic programs with video, photo galleries, and live stats on its new site, as well as with updates through social media networks.
