SAAC participating in conference-wide food drive

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is holding a conference-wide food drive to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.

The mission of the NCAA Division III SAAC is to "Enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenants of the Division III philosophy." As a conference, we aim to uphold this philosophy by helping feed our local communities during the holiday season.

SAAC members will be collecting various non-perishable items at upcoming home game events upon the return of students from Thanksgiving break.

The Greater Boston Food Bank is New England's largest hunger-relief organization and is working hard to help end hunger in eastern Massachusetts. The company distributes over 30 million pounds of food per year to more than 600 hunger relief agencies throughout eastern Massachusetts.

In addition to those efforts, each institutional SAAC has requested its athletic teams to play an active role in the food drive. Each athletic team has been assigned a particular food item in which they are responsible for collecting.

Each team member has been asked to donate one of the designated items. The goal is to create a steady donation base.

The food collection deadline for athletic teams is Friday, December 9, 2011 by 4 p.m. The location for food drop off has yet to be determined.

If you would like to help the CCC SAAC in its efforts to collect non-perishable foods for the Greater Boston Food Bank, please contact the SAAC advisor or SAAC President at the institution of your choice.
