Seahawks land 64 student-athletes on CCC All-Academic Team

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 64 student-athletes on the 2011-12 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Academic Team, announced Friday, June 1 by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. In total, 493 student-athletes representing all 10 member institutions were selected for the All-Academic Team.

Salve Regina University comprised 13% of the honorees, led by its women's soccer team which had 12 of its 20 eligible players earn selections. Individual standouts include seniors A.J. Albert (Franklin Park, N.J.) and Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.). Albert represented the Seahawks' men's lacrosse team as its lone member on the CCC All-Academic squad, and as a member of the SRU football team he was named to the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic Team while also being selected as a First Team Academic All-America® member. Barry was one of five members from the SRU women's volleyball team to earn CCC All-Academic honors. In addition, she was named the CCC Women's Volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year and was selected as a member of the Capital One Academic All-District volleyball team.
