Seahawks eliminated by Scots, 10-4
WENHAM, Mass. - Hosting the Seahawks of Salve Regina University today in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament action, the Fighting Scots captured a 10-4 win over their guests to stay alive in postseason play. With the win the Scots advance to take on Curry tomorrow at Springfield College at 11:00a.m., while the Seahawks close out their 2012 campaign with a 14-27 overall record.
Salve Regina struck first on the day when Dominic Di Sano (Central Falls, R.I.) two-RBI singled in the top of the first to bring in Nicholas Politelli (Warwick, R.I.) and Anthony Conte (Georgetown, Mass.) to give the Seahawks the 2-0 lead. Though waiting until the second frame to do so, the Scots responded to draw the game back to even when Ben Davidson (Sterling, Mass.) took advantage of an error at first to come in from third and Carlos Pichardo (La Romana, Dominican Republic) later RBI singled to score Geoff Brown (East Moriches, N.Y.).
The Scots then when on an offensive surge to plate eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to establish a healthy 10-2 lead over their guests. And though Salve Regina rallied late in the top of the ninth to plate two runs on a Matthew Croteau (Cheshire, Conn.) RBI single and a Matt Capone (East Providence, R.I.) sac fly to right, the Scots buckled down to put a stop to the Seahawks' comeback attempt with solid pitching and defense down the stretch of the final inning.
Davidson and Pichardo led the Scots' offensive effort with a pair of RBIs each, while Eric Wolak (Trumbull, Conn.) and Kris Camelio (Lexington, Mass.) also recorded one apiece. Ryan Reinsel (So./Hudson, Ohio) picked up the win on the mound for the Scots, allowing 10 hits and striking out six in 8.0 innings of work. Taking the loss for Salve Regina was Daniel Kehew (Portsmouth, R.I.), who allowed nine hits and five earned runs in 3.1 innings.
