NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University senior linebacker A.J. Albert (Franklin Park, N.J.) has been selected as a member of the Capital One Academic All-District football team. As a result, Albert has earned the honor to be included on the ballot for College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America©.
Albert was one of just three linebackers to be named to the All-District team, and had the highest grade point average of any defensive player to earn the honor. Majoring in Business, A.J. has compiled a 3.85 GPA while balancing a busy schedule, which includes his responsibilities in the classroom, on the football field, and in the athletic department, where he assists in the area of sports information.
On the field, Albert led the New England Football Conference (NEFC) with 20.5 tackles for loss, ranking 12th in the entire nation with an average of 2.05 tackles for loss per contest. The senior captain also led the conference with three fumbles recoveries on the year, while ranking second in fumbles forced (4), third in total tackles (96.0), third in solo tackles (52), and sixth in sacks (6.5). As a result, he was selected as a member of the NEFC All-Boyd Division First Team.
Albert and the Seahawks will return to action this Saturday at noon, hosting Worcester State in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North-West Bowl at Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I.
