Lopes, Stanley named captains for 2010 season

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University field hockey head coach Jennifer Eldridge has named seniors Brittany Lopes (Lexington, Mass.) and Jillian Stanley (Watertown, Conn.) team captains for the 2010 season.

A Second Team All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) selection in 2009, Stanley (right) started all 19 games for the Seahawks on defense last season. Lopes (left), meanwhile, ranked third on the team with 13 points (5-3-13) in 19 starts.

"Brittany and Jill bring a great amount of energy and dedication to our team," said Eldridge. "They work well with their teammates and the coaching staff. I feel confident they will lead this team to achieve great accomplishments during our 2010 season. The underclassmen have great role models to look up to on the field and in the classroom. Salve Regina field hockey is in a great place as we begin this season and our captains and returners are a major part of that."

The Seahawks open the 2010 season on Sept. 2 when they host Wheaton (Mass.) at 6:30 pm at Gaudet Field.
