Birrell player of the week after career effort in Seahawk win

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) selected Salve Regina University graduate student Ryan Birrell (Scituate, R.I.) as its men's basketball player of the week (Nov. 21-27).

The lefty point guard turned in a dominant performance on both ends of the court in the Seahawks' 84-81 victory over Daniel Webster. In addition to scoring a career-high 30 points, Birrell grabbed eight rebounds, dished out seven assists and registered five steals. Birrell shot 67% from the field (8-of-12), 33% from 3-point range (2-of-6) and 71% from the line (12-of-17).

ECAC In addition to his conference honor, Birrell earned player of the week recognition from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for Division III - New England Region.

Salve Regina (2-2; 0-0 CCC), the defending conference champion, opens its 2011-12 league schedule with a home tilt against Endicott College on Wednesday (8 p.m.) from the Rodgers Recreation Center. Follow the Seahawks with live stats and live video for all home games.
