CCC Player of the Week: Ryan Birrell

Birrell ranks among the league leaders in most categories including No. 1 in assists.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Salve Regina University graduate student guard Ryan Birrell (Scituate, R.I.) poured in 25 points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed five boards to help the Seahawks snap second-place Wentworth's five game winning streak in a 91-61 road victory.

The win helped Salve Regina maintain a two-game lead in the standings heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Birrell added 21 points off 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and 7-of-10 from the line. He averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks.

Birrell currently ranks 1st in the league in assists (5.3 apg), 2nd in scoring (18.0 ppg), 2nd in steals (2.3 spg), 10th in rebounding (6.4 rpg), and 9th in field goal percentage (.459). Earlier this year he became the 16th Seahawk to reach 1,000-point milestone and now ranks 8th on the all-time scoring list (1,178 points).

With his third player of the week award Birrell leads all CCC players with that honor.

Salve Regina plays its final regular-season home game of Ryan Birrell's career Tuesday when it hosts Nichols College at 8 p.m. The Seahawks can wrap up the top seed in the conference tournament with a win against the Bison.
