CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Eight student-athletes from the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team have been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast All-Academic Team.
Seniors Joe Colaianni (Monroe, N.Y.), Matt Kervick (Stoneham, Mass.), Matt Norraik (Rochester, N.H.), Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.), and Kevin Sullivan (North Branford, Conn.) joined juniors Henry DeSimone (Burlington, Mass.) and Andrew Pryor (North Chittenden, Vt.), and sophomore Isaiah Carlson (Kenny Lake, Alaska) on the squad. The five seniors, along with DeSimone, are all repeat selections from last season. Colaianni, Norraik, Russell and Sullivan were also selected to the team in 2008-09, thus making them three-time honorees.
Colaianni is a business studies major who led the Seahawks in goals (11) and points (21) in 2010-11. Russell placed third on the team in scoring with 19 points (9-10-19) and is a finance major. Sullivan is a administration of justice major who racked up 11 points (3-8-11) from the blue line for first-year head coach Andy Boschetto. Norraik is a secondary education and history major who appeared in 20 games this past season while Kervick dressed for 16 games and is a finance major.
DeSimone compiled five points (1-4-5) in 22 games while majoring in finance management. Pryor is a business major while Carlson recorded three assists in 22 games. A nursing major, Carlson was a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.
A total of 57 student-athletes from the conference's eight institutions were named to the team. Curry and Jonson & Wales each placed nine players on the team, followed by Salve Regina and Wentworth with eight, Becker, Nichols, and Suffolk with seven, and Western New England with two.
To be named to the all-academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, and have competed in at least one-half of his team's games during the regular season.
The Seahawks finished the 2010-11 season 1-21-2 (1-13-0 ECAC).
