SEAHAWK MEN'S ICE HOCKEY RESULTS

Salve Regina 4, Manhattanville 1
Portsmouth, R.I. – Portsmouth Abbey
Friday, October 28, 2016

Summary
The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team scored four straight goals to earn its first ever victory over Manhattanville College in a non-conference meeting to open the 2016-17 season.

Series and Streaks
This was the fourth meeting between Salve Regina and Manhattanville. The Valiants still own a 3-1 record in the series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina sophomore Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) - made 30 saves and allowed just one goal.
2 – Salve Regina sophomore Chase Hatcher (Marine City, Mich.) - had a goal and an assist in his first collegiate game.
3 – Salve Regina freshman Jack Billings (Oak Lawn, Ill.) - handed out two assists in his first collegiate game.

Key Stat of the Game
The Valiants were 0-7 on the powerplay.

Turning Point
The Seahawks scored three goals almost exactly five minutes apart and dominated the second period. At 4:45 into the frame Evan Schmidbauer (San Diego, Calif.) tipped in a pass in front from Shaun Patry (Penfield, N.Y.), then at 10:49 Jack Billings set up Jonathan Felteau (Peabody, Mass.) for a shorthanded score, before Chase Hatcher fired in a rebound at 15:48 to complete the scoring on the day.

Quick Hits

  • The Valiants struck first in the game when Brad Riccardi (Scarsdale, N.Y.) took a loose puck in front and roofed it into the goal. The Valiants lead did not last long however as the Seahawks would answer immediately, with Shultz striking 28 seconds later to tie the game 1-1 with 13:07 left in the first period.
  • The Valiants outshot the Seahawks 30-24 in the game.
  • The game was chippy from the get go as the teams racked up 46 minutes of penalties combined, 32 of which came in the decisive second period.
  • Tyler Feaver (Whitby, Ont.) made 20 saves in net for the Valiants in the loss.
