Streaking Statesmen down Seahawks

Streaking Statesmen down Seahawks

GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 9/10 Hobart College hockey team stretched its unbeaten streak to five games with a 4-1 win over No. 13/14 Salve Regina in non-league contest in The Cooler. tonight The Statesmen are now 8-2-3 this season.

The Seahawks fall to 9-3-2 this year. Sophomore Brandon Bistodeau and seniorCarl Belizario led Hobart with a goal and an assist each. Senior Mitch Beyer and seniorConnor Simon added two assists apiece. First-year goaltender Alexander Connalturned aside 23 shots in all 60 minutes to improve to 5-0-2 in goal.

Hobart took a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in a first period that featured seven penalties between the two teams. At 12:16 into the first, it was senior Nick Bingaman who broke through for the Statesmen. After passes from Beyer and Belizario, Bingaman carried the puck into Hobart's offensive zone and found the back of the net for his 10th goal of the year.

Just 3:32 into the second period, Chase Hatcher tied things up, scoring top shelf after assists from Jonathan Felteau and Jack Billings. A little over three minutes later, Bistodeau took back the lead for the Statesmen with his second goal of the year. He scored off a feed from Simon. First-year Zach Sternbach made it 3-1, capitalizing on a 5-3. He slid his shot in at the left post. Bistodeau and Simon earned the assists on the play. It was Sternbach's sixth goal this winter.

Just 6:33 into the third, Belizario notched his second goal this year to extend the Hobart lead to 4-1. Beyer sent a pass across the blue line and Belizario's shot from the right side found the back of the net. With just under a minute remaining and Salve Regina on the power play, Nick Owen rang a shot off the pipe, but the Seahawks were unable to take advantage of their eighth power-play of the night.

The Statesmen finished with a 38-24 advantage in shots. Hobart killed all nine of the Seahawks power-play opportunities and finished 2-for-6 on the power-play.
