NEWPORT, R.I. – Seniors Jacob Brigandi (Vernon, Conn.) and Robert Ernst (Needham, Mass.) have been announced as the 2012 team captains for the Salve Regina University men's soccer team.
"This announcement just affirms what has been apparent since the close of the 2011 season," says head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "Jacob has taken up the mantle of leadership along with Robert, who was already a captain for us, and the two of them have been the most out-spoken and central figures within my program during this past winter and spring. They both complement each other very well and have already earned the respect and following of their teammates."
Brigandi and Ernst are both four-year members of the Salve Regina University men's soccer program. As sophomores, they helped the Seahawks tie a program record with 14 wins in 2010, earning the team's second-ever berth to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship tournament where they advanced to the semifinals.
Brigandi and Ernst will look to lead the Seahawks to their fifth straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship tournament appearance during the upcoming 2012 campaign.
