Scots trip Seahawks in regular season finale, 6-3

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Gordon College men's tennis team defeated Salve Regina University 6-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Thursday afternoon at the Leroy Avenue tennis courts.

The Scots (10-9, 6-5 TCCC) captured two of the three doubles points and won four of the six singles matches to snap an 18-match losing streak to the Seahawks (5-11, 5-6 TCCC).

Junior Gary Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) and junior Eric Musser (Lake Grove, N.Y.) scored an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles over junior Brian Castrichini (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.). At No. 3 doubles, senior Josh Cornwall (East Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Kenneth Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) posted an 8-1 win over sophomores Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) and James Diamantopoulos (West Yarmouth, Mass.).

Salve Regina junior Zach Rosenfeld (Easton, Conn.) and sophomore Chad Strong (San Diego, Calif.) picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over senior Carol Quinion (Westerville, Ohio) and sophomore Nate Musser (Madison, Wisc.).

Nate Musser and Cornwall picked up the first two singles points for Gordon as Musser downed McCormack at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Cornwall defeated sophomore Brian Sweeney (Waldoboro, Maine) at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Eric Musser sealed the win for Gordon when he knocked off Castrichini at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Quinion earned the sixth and final point for the Scots with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Rosenfeld at No. 2 singles.

Strong scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Gary Gaudio while Isch defeated Kenneth Gaudio at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3 for Salve Regina.

The Seahawks and Scott will both be on the road for the first round of TCCC Championship playoffs, beginning Monday, April 25.
