Salve Regina wraps season at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - Salve Regina University sailing completed its 2010-2011 season with competition at the New England Team Race Championship hosted by Dartmouth College. Following is a report submitted by Justin Assad of Dartmouth College:

Fowle Trophy for the New England Team Race Championship Dartmouth College May 7-8, 2011

Sunday Report
A chillier start on Sunday morning, with the boats rolling out of the Art Allen boathouse and rigs going up next a mirror pond on Mascoma.  Though the forecast was again "light and variable," a northerly filled and racing was under way by 9:50 AM.  Near perfect conditions allowed for completion of a second Gold Round of 8 by 1:30, and the last race of the final 6 was sailed at 4:15 PM.  No one could catch the Boston College Eagles, who finished with an impressive 17-2 record, while Yale battled into 2nd, winning the tiebreaker head to head with Roger Williams.

Congratulations to the Boston College Eagles, Yale Bulldogs, and Roger Williams Hawks, who go on to the ICSA Team Race National Championship at the Gorge.  In addition to your teams and your schools, you're representing the entire New England Conference out there: we're rooting for you, and we know you'll make us proud!

Final Scores and RP Information are below, and the Final Scoring Grid (thank you again Alden) is attached.

Saturday Report
A fantastic day for sailing on Lake Mascoma.  Almost immediately following the PRO's comment at the competitor's meeting "The forecast is NOT good,"
the classic New Hampshire Northerly filled and racing began around 10:25 AM.
The qualifying round was completed around 2:30 PM, and the Gold Round of 8 was ultimately completed around 7:30 PM.  During the round of 8, a westerly threatened racing conditions with big shifts and some big holes, resulting in a few abandonments and a few postponements.  Weather was ideal, and NEISA responded with both grills fully ablaze; spectators abounded, and celebration of another fantastic year in New England Collegiate Sailing ensued.

Many thanks are due: Scorer Alden Reid BC 08, Markboat specialist Erik Storck D 07, and a fantastic Umpire Crew led by Steve Wrigley.  We cannot miss the Dartmouth undergrads who spent long, long hours on the start boat, finish boat, and running shore ops (and the grills).  As always, volunteers helped make today a fantastic day of racing, and I'm sure I've missed some, but the sailors and the hosts thank you.

In true NEISA fashion, parity reigns.  The BC Eagles hold the lead without a loss in the first Gold round, but scores are tight behind them and the battle ensues tomorrow for the rest of the berths to the Gorge.

1. Boston College Eagles 17-2
