Salve Regina sails in Newport and Boston

NEWPORT, R.I. - It was a great weekend for the Salve Regina sailing team, and it required calling on some of the program's depth as it competed on two fronts.

At home on Narragansett Bay, sophomores Bob Lippincott (Oxford, Md.) and Jennifer Poole (New Fairfield, Conn.) teamed up to win A-division while in B-division, sophomore Chris Jensen (Mountain View, Calif.) and junior Hayley Blundell (Taylor, Texas) scored many top-five finishes, including a first to bring the team in at a respectable fifth in the 19-team field. Up in Boston, seniors Peter Pellegrini (Kingston, Mass.) and Karafaye Buffa (Huntington, Calif.) dominated A-division while juniors Kyle Carney (Newport, R.I.) and Mary Zeolla (Simi Valley, Calif.) finished a very close second in B-division. The combined scores at the Boston University regatta brought home the "Gold" for Salve Regina beating 17 other top-notch schools including Bowdoin, Brown, Boston College, Coast Guard, Tufts, MIT, BU, Harvard and Yale. Coach Komar commented, "Progress continues as we approach the New England dinghy Championships in mid May."
