Softball honored by NFCA for academic achievements

NEWPORT, R.I. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced the Salve Regina University softball team as a one of their 2010-11 NFCA Division III All-Academic Teams. In addition, senior Christina Walsh (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), freshman Jennifer Edine (Warwick, R.I.), and freshman Bethany Snow (Thomaston, Maine) have each been selected as members of the 2010-11 NFCA Division III All-America Scholar Athletes team.

In order to be recognized as an All-Academic Team, clubs had to compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or greater. The Seahawks were among a list of just 109 teams in the nation, as well as one of just two teams from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), to earn the award, finishing with a 3.15 team GPA.

The criteria for the All-America Scholar Athletes team required individuals to record a minimum GPA of 3.50. Walsh, Edine, and Snow were three of just six members from the entire conference to earn a place on the team.

The Seahawks are currently preparing for the start of their 2012 season, which begins at the Dot Richardson Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
