NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University sophomore Marissa Simpson (Brimfield, Mass.) has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Co-Player of the Week, as announced by conference commissioner Gregg Kaye on Tuesday afternoon.

Simpson led the Seahawks to a 4-0 record during conference play last week, compiling a .692 batting average, a .733 on-base percentage, and an outstanding 1.154 slugging percentage. She was terrific during the Seahawks' doubleheader sweep of Wentworth on Sunday, compiling a pair of three-hit games at the plate while going 6-for-7 with both a double and a home run. In addition, she helped Salve Regina sweep UNE, going 2-for-3 during a 5-4 victory in game one before scoring the game-winning run during a 1-0 triumph in the nightcap. She completed the six-game week with nine hits, five walks, four runs batted in, and five runs scored.

Simpson and the Seahawks have currently won six straight contests and are just two games out of first place in the conference. Salve Regina will return to action on Saturday, traveling to face Gordon in a CCC doubleheader starting at noon.
