Golden, Small named captains for 2009-10 season
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's ice hockey coach Michael Cox has announced that juniors Molly Golden (Milton, Mass.) and Sarah Small (Medfield, Mass.) will serve as team captains for the 2009-10 season.
Golden is the second-leading returning scorer from last season's 18-9-1 squad with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists). She potted five power-play goals, one game-winning goal (at MIT, Jan. 10), and one short-handed goal (at St. Michael's, Jan.30). Golden had a pair of four-game scoring streaks and scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the Seahawks 7-2 win at UMass Boston in the ECAC Quarterfinals on Feb. 28.
Small scored three goals and handed out four assists for a total of seven points in 28 games last season. She tallied two points (1-1-2) against Sacred Heart on Nov. 7, 2008, and dished out a pair of assists against Nichols on Jan. 16. She also scored a power-play goal against MIT (Nov. 22, 2008).
Salve Regina opened its season with a 3-2 win at SUNY-Cortland last Friday before dropping a 2-1 decision at SUNY-Potsdam the following evening. The Seahawks (1-1) travel to Dudley, Mass. for a 7:30 contest with Nichols tonight.
