    Women's ice hockey places eight on all-academic team NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University women’s ice hockey team had eight players selected as members of the 2011-12 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East All-Academic Team as announced by ECAC commissioner Rudy Keeling. Senior Kristen Aiello, sophomore Monika Borkowski, sophomore Shannon Coleman, junior Caitlyn Farragher, sophomore Natalie Madryga, junior Melanie Sherlock, junior Kelsey Talty, and senior Jen Thiesing each represented the Seahawks on the All-Academic Team.

    Porter named to All-New England All-Stars NEWPORT, R.I. – The New England Hockey Writers have announced Salve Regina University junior Rachel Porter as a member of the 2011-12 Women’s Division II/III All-New England All-Star Team. Porter is one of just 12 players from the entire region to earn this honor, including six forwards, four defenseman and two goaltenders.

The Spartans improve to 10-13-2 overall with the win, while the Seahawks end their season with an 11-10-5 record.

The Purple Knights finish the regular season 3-20-1 overall and 2-15-1 in the ECAC East, while the Seahawks head into the playoffs at 11-9-5 on the season and 7-7-4 during conference play.

The win marks the second all-time victory for the Seahawks over the Valiants, mproving their record to 10-8-4 overall and 6-6-3 in the conference. The loss was the first for Manhattanville in their five contests, dropping the Valiants to 11-8-3 on the season, including a 9-4-2 mark during conference play.
