NEWPORT, R.I. – The New England Hockey Writers have announced Salve Regina University junior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.)as a member of the 2011-12 Women's Division II/III All-New England All-Star Team. Porter is one of just 12 players from the entire region to earn this honor, including six forwards, four defenseman and two goaltenders.
Porter had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the program this year, setting the school records for points (33) and goals (17), while also tying the SRU mark for assists (16). She led all ECAC East defenseman in goals during conference play (11), while also finishing second in points (25). She compiled at least two points during 12 for the Seahawks' 26 games this season, including 10 contests with both a goal and an assist. As a result, she was named All-ECAC Women's East as a First Team defenseman.
"To eclipse Salve Regina's single season scoring record and amass a +12 plus/minus rating while playing in the unique defensive role we asked of her is truly remarkable and worthy of this type of honor," says Salve Regina women's ice hockey head coach Michael Cox. "It was a vintage Bobby Orr type of season for Rachel."
Porter is Salve Regina's all-time leader in game-winning goals and currently ranks second on the all-time lists for both points and goals.
