Dobson named assistant women's lacrosse coach
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University head women's lacrosse coach Jennifer Eldridge announced today that Heather Dobson has been hired as an assistant coach. Dobson replaces Katya Outwater, who has accepted a similar position at SUNY-Fredonia.
Dobson was a four-year letterwinner at Springfield College and graduated this past May with 95 career goals, which ranks her 10th in school history. As a senior captain, she earned First Team All-NEWMAC honors after recording career-highs in goals (33), assists (16), and points (49).
"Heather brings a great amount of knowledge and passion for the sport of lacrosse to our program," said Eldridge. "I am very excited to have her join my staff, as our players will benefit greatly from everything she has to offer. Her experience as a player and coach will help our program continue to grow and develop into one of the top teams in The Commonwealth Coast Conference."
Dobson appeared in 64 career games (46 starts), scoring 95 goals and dishing out 31 assists for a total of 126 points. As a freshman, she potted 24 goals and helped the Pride capture the NEWMAC Championship and earn a berth in the Division III Tournament. She tallied 13 points as a sophomore (11-2-13) and 40 more as a junior (27-13-40).
Off the field, Dobson has worked at numerous camps and clinics, including Longmeadow Youth Lacrosse (2002-05), Springfield College Women's Lacrosse Clinic (2009), Peak Performance Lacrosse Camp (2007-present), Indoor Action Sports Select Lacrosse (2007-present), Lax Plus (2008-present), and Maine Elite Lacrosse Futures (2008-present).
Dobson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Movement and Sports Studies. She was a Dean's List student and Presidential Scholarship recipient, and is currently a licensed physical education instructor (Pre K-8, 5-12).
