Livingston, Owen named 2012 team captains

NEWPORT, R.I. - Seniors Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) and Mara-Lise Owen (Germantown, Md.) have been announced as the 2012 team captains for the Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team.

"We are excited to have Sarah and Mara lead our team again this year," says head coach Jen Foster. "As junior captains for the 2011 season they learned a lot about themselves as leaders and also what it means to be a captain. A year later they have set high expectations for their senior season and are ready to push our team to new levels of success."

Livingston ranked second on the team with 65 points and 52 goals last season. She supplied the Seahawks with consistent offensive production, compiling three or more points in 10 of the team's 17 games on the year, including a season-high 10 points (6g, 4a) during a 22-19 victory over the University of New England last March. "Sarah will be a go to player on attack," says Coach Foster. "Her experience and confidence will be key in our team's success."

Owen started all 17 games for the Seahawks in 2011, serving as one of the anchors of the team's defensive unit. She finished third on the club in caused turnovers last season and the Seahawks will once again be counting on her defensive presence in 2012. "Mara's desire to be a better player is a strong example for our entire team," says Coach Foster. "She will be an important part of our defense and transition game."

Livingston and Owen are looking to help the Seahawks return to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship tournament for a third consecutive season in 2012.
