Birrell earns NSCAA All-New England selection

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior forward Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) of the Salve Regina University women's soccer team has been selected as a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 NCAA Women's Division III All-New England Third Team. This is the second consecutive year that Birrell has been named to the NSCAA All-New England squad.

Birrell had a standout season for the Seahawks this year, leading the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in points (49), goals (19), assists (11), game-winning scores (7), points per game (2.45), and assists per game (0.55). As a result, she was selected to the All-CCC First Team and the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Division III All-New England First Team, while also being named the 2011 Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year.

The junior forward helped lead the Seahawks to a program-record 13 wins this season, qualifying for the CCC Championship for the third consecutive year while also earning their first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship tournament berth.
