NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Shannon O'Brien clinched the team decision with a 6-2,6-2 win at fourth singles as Salve Regina University women's tennis defeated visiting Western New England, 5-4, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match. O'Brien had earlier paired with her senior teammate Nichol Stevens, a co-captain, for a crucial point with an 8-4 score at second doubles.

Salve Regina University women's tennis took all nine matches in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt today in Boston against Wentworth Institute of Technology. The win improves the Seahawks overall record to 5-3 and pulls them to .500 (3-3) in the league. The Leopards slip to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Liguori lights the way for Salve Regina
Salve Regina University sophomore Elizabeth Liguori finished her straight-set victory at sixth singles in virtual darkness, save for two spotlights shining down from the Antone Academic Center. Liguori's win in the final match broke a 4-4 tie and gave Salve Regina women's tennis a 5-4 win over visiting Johnson & Wales University. It was the first-ever dual match meeting between the two schools in women's tennis.

In only its second year competing at the Tennis Hall of Fame, Curry College women's tennis captured the team championship of the 2011 Women's Grass Court Doubles Tournament hosted by Salve Regina University at the historic courts of the Newport Casino.

Salve Regina University women's tennis won its first match of 2011 with a 9-0 score over visiting Gordon College. The victory evened the Seahawks' season record at 1-1 overall as well as in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Fighting Scots (0-2; 0-2 CCC) have dropped their first two matches.

Gulls gain revenge with 8-1 win over Seahawks
Less than a year ago in Newport, Salve Regina University women's tennis swept all nine matches in a 9-0 win over Endicott College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season final for both teams. Today in the conference opener at Endicott, the Gulls nearly reversed the score while finishing with an 8-1 win against the Seahawks.

The Salve Regina University women’s tennis team enters the 2011-12 campaign coming off its first 10-win season in three years. The Seahawks finished with an overall mark of 10-6 last season, posting an impressive 9-2 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), and will look to build upon that success this year.
