Maxwell adds two to coaching staff

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University head volleyball coach Jen Maxwell has announced that Lindsay Marshall and Richard Baumert have joined the program as assistant coaches.

Marshall was a four-year member and two-year captain of the volleyball team at Rivier College from 2004-07 while Baumert has experience playing within the Navy and on several upper-level YMCA Volleyball teams.

"Lindsay's experience as a player and a coach, in addition to her knowledge and love of the game, will benefit our student-athletes both on and off the court," said Maxwell, who begins her third season as head coach at Salve Regina. "Richard's enthusiasm and passion for the sport will also be a tremendous asset to our program."

While at Rivier, Marshall was a two-time GNAC All-Tournament Team (2005-06) and First Team All-GNAC selection (2006-07). She helped Rivier capture the 2007 GNAC Championship and was named Rivier College Female Athlete of the Year and Granite State Libero of the Year following the season. Marshall began her coaching career with Athletes' Competitive Edge (ACE), where she was the head coach for a U-16 team. Most recently, she worked as an assistant coach with the Blast Volleyball Academy in Providence (2007-08).

Baumert, meanwhile, currently plays at both the Newport Volleyball Club and the YMCA. In 2006, he coached and played on a Command Navy Volleyball team which came in second place in a Captains Cup tournament. He also captained four volleyball teams in Armed Forces Kuwait tournaments in 2008, three of which captured first-place.

The Seahawks (12-15, 4-6 TCCC in 2008) open the 2009 season with a neutral site match against Emerson on Friday, August 5. Match time is set for noon.
