Seahawks place 15th at UMD Shriners Invitational
DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Salve Regina University women's cross country team placed 15th out of 42 schools at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning.
Freshman and reigning The Commonwealth Coast Conference Runner of the Week Paige Pallotto (Woodbridge, N.J.) led the Seahawks and placed 27th overall with a time of 19:09.23 on the 5K course. Sophomore Caroline Norton (Portland, Conn.) was next in 99th place with a time of 20:26.36, followed by freshman Mallory Goding (Cumberland, Maine) in 100th place with a time of 20:26.94.
Freshman Alexis Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) was fourth amongst Salve Regina runners and 157th overall (21:19.81), and junior Marissa Fiore (Lexington, Mass.) rounded out the SRU top five with a 165th place finish (21:24.84).
"The women ran extremely well today, all the way up and down the team," said assistant coach Matthew Hird. "Paige was shockingly quick, running the fastest time of her career. And although Marissa Fiore had an off-day, the team had its best result in many years. They are exciting to watch, exciting to coach, and we hope the best is yet to come."
The Seahawks return to action next Saturday when they compete at the Connecticut College Invitational.
