Women's cross country announces captains

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's cross country team has announced seniors Alexis Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) and Mallory Goding (Cumberland, Maine), and juniors Kayley Ryan (Portland, Conn.) and Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) as its 2012 team captains.

"These four women were chosen to lead the 2012 Salve Regina University women's cross country team because of their dedication to our program and the idea that the team comes first," says head coach David Kraszewski. "They understand what it takes to win and the effort that it requires."

Gallipoli, Goding, Ryan, and Waldschmidt each played major roles in the Seahawks' 2011 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship season, marking the program's first-ever conference title.

Although the Seahawks graduated several talented seniors from last year's roster, including CCC Runner of the Year Caroline Norton, Coach Kraszewski has bolstered the lineup with a strong group of recruits for Gallipoli, Goding, Ryan, and Waldschmidt to lead.

"As we build on the success of the 2011 season, I feel that these four ladies will lead us to continued success in our quest to defend the Commonwealth Coast Conference title," explains Coach Kraszewski. "Their experience and knowledge of the sport will be passed down to the underclassmen and I am confident that these ladies will lead us to a very successful 2012 cross country season."
